Red carpet interviews at BIFF Awards Night 2010

Paradise Island, Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly News Team takes you to the red carpet at the 7th annual Bahamas International Film Festival with interviews with the Bahamas Film Commissioner, Craig Woods. Then hear from the co-director and star of The Athlete, the double winner of BIFF's Audience Award and was the 'Spirit of Freedom' winner. His film expects to make the short list for the Academy Awards; Next you will hear from director Adam Reid of Hello Lonesome, winner of the New Visions Award (feature film category). Our next interview is with Bahamian film director, Gustavius Smith who won the Film Makers Residency award two years ago at BIFF, and who this year won the Best Short Film Award for his short, Contact Zone. In this video you will also hear from the Filmmakers Residency Program winner, Sara Van Acker who won with her screenplay "Blood Lust." She won out of 6 finalists and were mentored by professionals during the festival. Her film was based on the female pirate Anne Bonny. You will hear from short film director (Bahamian) Travon Patton alongside his cast from Redial Sunshine, a locally shot film based on a love story. Final words are given from Leslie Vanderpool. Founder and Executive Director of BIFF who reiterates the strength of the support to pull off a film festival under such financially hard times. On the red carpet at the world premiere of Wind Jammers

Paradise Island, Bahamas - The Bahamas Weekly News Team takes you to the red carpet of the world premiere of Wind Jammers, a Bahamian film shot almost entirely on location in Nassau. On December 1st the cast, crew, directors and writers came together with family, friends, local and international supporters to screen the family feature film at the Atlantis Theatre. In this video you will hear from the films co-directors, Kareem Mortimer and Ric von Maur. Then you will hear from many of the local actors like lead actress, Justice von Maur and Maria Cataldo who also worked on Bahamian films, Rain and Children of God. Also featured in this video is lead actor Craig Pinder; actress Claudette Allens; actor Anthony "Skeebo" Roberts; one of the film's three writers, Michael Ray Brown of California; Bahamian tennis star, Mark Knowles; actress Onike Archer; Ernst Ruhmer, Austrian Consular and who used to be the Nassau Yacht Club's manager back in the 60s; Sir Durwood Knowles, Olympian living legend from The Bahamas who was also an adviser on the film; and the night closes out with the sounds and colours of the Roots Junkanoo group. Film Synopsis: A young mixed race girl, Justice, moves to the Bahamas with her adoptive parents and experiences a new culture. The family joins the local sailing club and discovers racial undercurrents. Although there are no rules against black members and most of the members dont mind, one influential member makes it difficult for the new family. Justice joins the sailing program and meets new friends. She loves sailing and decides to compete in the National Regatta. A 1964 Olympic Champion in sailing is impressed by Justice and recognizes that she can help change the attitudes of his beloved Bahamas and coaches her to be a first class sailor. Tension mounts as the influential member, worried that Justice will embarrass him, tries to get the family thrown off the island. Meanwhile, Justice meets a Bahamian boy and the two teach each other about their different cultures. In the end, Justice inspires everyone to rise above their petty differences and unites them as one people. One Bahamas!
